Lesson

From Sun to Sandwich

In this lesson, students will learn about food chains and food webs by studying examples found right here in Hawaiʻi. They will examine the one way flow of energy from the sun as it travels through an ocean and land food chain. Students then discover how food chains are interconnected to form food webs. By removing organisms from their food chain and food web models, they will discover how changes can affect the entire system. Earth’s systems will be investigated to determine how changes in them can affect the delicate balance in food chains and food webs.
